Styles of beauty

In our country few stylists have managed to complete their 25 plus years in the industry. Rizwana Khan is one such stylist who has been in the beauty business for the last 26 years. Recently, Rizwana Khan celebrated her salon - Zara's 26th anniversary in a style show at her Zamzama branch in Karachi. Here she talks to You! about her experiences and work...
"When I started my salon 'Zara's' in the '80s there were a few known beauticians like Mussart Misbah, Peng Qureishi, Rohana Iqbal and Daulat Rahimtoola. Mostly top salons of that time like Shaheen's, Depilex and Dolly's were located at Tariq Road and Bhadrabad. I really had to work hard to establish myself as a reputed beautician. I opened my first salon in North Nazimabad. Then I went to Baghdad (Iraq) for a few years where I got professional training in hair, make-up and skin. The years which I spent in Baghdad were a great leaning experience. I also got a chance to work in one of the top salons of Baghdad where I used to make brides. I was really impressed by the well groomed Iraqi women as they were very particular about how they look.
"I came back to Karachi in 1990 and re-opened my salon. Then I opened my second branch in Bhadrabad about 15 years ago. It was a challenging task as I arranged for the finances and place and everything all by myself but with the support of my family and friends I was able to manage it successfully. Last year, I opened a third branch of my salon at Zamzama."
Rizwana has participated in lots of fashion shows and has done numerous beauty shoots for magazines. But her recent style show, which was held at her Zamzama's salon, was her first solo show. "It was basically a hair and makeup show in which I tried to be innovative by giving gorgeous models different looks and styles like I did with party makeup, bridal makeup, evening makeup etc," explains Rizwana.
Well at the show one could spot top models like Iraj, Gia Ali, Rabab and Maha wearing Usman Ditto, Maheen Karim, Karma Pink and Jami Abidi's beautiful creations. Although it was a style show, mixing it with fashion sabotaged the whole concept. Poor audience, cramped in a small space, which was not at all fit for a show, could not relish the show as there was not enough place for them to stand or sit. Had there been a larger venue, guests would have enjoyed more.

Anyway, talking about latest trends in hair and makeup Rizwana says that these days waves are in and makeup is to be blended well. In streaking colours like light brown and chocolate brown are very popular among women. However, she suggests that 40 plus women should not go for light brown as it gives a dull effect. She advises young girls to keep long hair and recommends that middle-aged women should go for shoulder-length as it makes them look younger and fresh.
She believes in using quality stuff and always uses branded cosmetics like Mac, Maybeline and YSL. According to Rizwana taking care of one's skin is very important. She shares some beauty tips with our readers, "Wear minimum makeup in daytime as your skin needs to breathe too. Try wearing makeup in evenings. If you use foundation then make sure it is well-blended."

  1. Beauty Salon Plano

Beauty care profession really a nice job. salon and makeup also an important issue a beautician and the customer. All looking to be nice but I think only one bad side is excessive/wrong use of cosmetics and makeup accessories may be harmful.
